My apartment is small. It takes two flights of steps to get to it (I’m on the second floor). I have a bigger dog, small for a lab, but big by most standards. Every time I take her out, it’s down those steps and out and around the complex.

When I take her out at night, I like that there are people up with their lights on. I like hearing the sounds of my neighbors living their lives.

Sure, some aspects of where I live are not convenient. It’s not easy to pack the stuff I’ve accumulated into my tiny apartment. It’s a pain to have to take my dog out, at certain times more than others (when it’s rainy and windy, it’s not fun).

Some aspects , though, are quite convenient. I don’t have to fix anything myself. I call the property managers to handle that. I have people around me at all times. That feels comforting. (Most of the time.)

It’s not perfect. But I do like it.

Remembering the good

Here’s the thing. No place any of us live is perfect. Not the place where we currently live nor the place where we dream of living and one day do.
