Identifying Your Core Values Is Crucial to Every Aspect of Your Life

As a life coach, I’ve learned how important it is to know what your personal core values are. It turns out if you’re not living your life according to those values, you can feel lost, and unhappy. If you are living your life in a way that satisfies your core values, you tend to feel fulfilled and as if your life reflects who you are.

It’s never too late to identify your core values. I did it while training to be a life coach. It was eye-opening. I wish I’d known sooner. I’m not sure it would have changed the course of my life in any way, although it might have. However, I definitely would have understood my reaction to events in my life that did not adhere to my core values. It also may have helped me pay closer attention to my intense resistance to things that happened in my life.

Why I Wish I’d Known Sooner

Learning about the importance of one’s core values made me think back to a dark time in my life. I was seeing a therapist after having been raped by a stranger. I’d seen a counselor at a rape crisis center for six weeks, and she had referred me to this therapist.

I remember this therapist telling me that the rape had not changed the “core” of my being…
